Same issue in our environment, started today. Do you all run the Absolute Agent in your environment, perchance? Incidentally, kb resolves the issue.

We do not run the Absolute Agent. Okay, thank you. We're trying to figure out what has updated as of today to initiate this issue. We have had these patches installed for several weeks without a problem until today, like others reporting this problem.

We are getting reports of the same issue within our large organization. Has it resolved for you guys? We are seeing it resolved now suddenly We disabled active scripting via gp and that resolved the issue for us.

I can confirm that it is resolved in our environment now. Thanks, Microsoft. Note the log location and the dump location. After configuring dr watson, please reproduce the issue and dr watson would generate a full dump at the location specified. Please let us know your email ID and we would create a share for you to upload the dump files to.

The issue on IE6 depends on the website, its contents and several other factors. So you might not hit the crash everytime. The correct solution for IE6 crash is the registry key which Sankar has mentioned in the post above. David, could you please follow the steps listed out by Shashank, and give us a memory dump of the crash. This did work for me successfully.

Tried the suggested re-registering the dlls and also installing the update, neither worked. I did not need to restart the computer to get the registry key to work either, but I did after and it still worked. Here's my plain English, non-technical analysis about urlmon functionality and the cause for IE6 crashes:.

Now, to the best of my knowledge, urlmon is used primarily with Microsoft's ant-fishing filter which is not an option on IE6 please correct me if I'm wrong. So, if this program is new with SP3 and was never used before with IE6, and it is setup to launch anyway, maybe your firewall is blocking the launch and causing IE6 to crash.

The reason I say this is because mine only crashed once, and since I only use the built-in XP firewall, maybe the system made an adjustment to allow it to launch even though it is not required for IE6. Or you can just upgrade to IE7 and that might take care of it also. The causes for the crash was due to a bug for which a Hotfix has been released recently. This fix would be available in the next XP SP3 build which gets released.

So how does one get this Hotfix? It doesn't appear to be available via Windows update. So if your answer is that it will be included in the next SP3 update, then it is not truly a Hotfix.

AND based on the fact that many people are experiencing IE6 crashes and compounded by the fact that very few people are aware of this forum, I would think that Microsoft would take a more active approach in providing a quick-fix solution e. Thank you for sharing that link. It sure looks like a hotfix to me. Now I wonder how the average Joe like myself would find it without the help of people like yourself.

Same problem. Havent tried the registry patch, but tried the hotfix mentioned above Article KB, did not work. Setup Error: Setup has detected that the Service Pack SP3 version of this system is newer than the update you are applying. But besides that, Id rather install IE7, but I get the cannot install error. Any time frame for these bugs to be fixed? After reading another article I found that downloading the newest version worked.

The fix will be present in the next SP3 build. Please use the registry patch for resolving this issue now. We thank you for your active participation. Has the registry change resolved the crash issue? Now the "stopped working" window appears ad infinitum. Choosing Debug one time revealed that it is encountering a repeating series of Access Violations. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help.
