Windows xp computer keeps shutting down by itself
Sad to say the computer shuts down in SAFE mode also. I can't keep it running long enough to figure things out. And yes, I did do the whole McAfee virus scan, twice I tried to restart in SAFE mode earlier on, and right after getting my Windows started up in that mode, the computer did the surprise shutdown with warning. I did check my drive for errors, no luck there. Are there any error messages before your Dell computer shuts down?
Denny Denham 7 Thorium. I don't think it's overheating. Which is a bummer. I would love to restore my system back past Nov. Kein Problem. Besuchen Sie die Website Dell. If the grids on the heatsink do not have dust as shown in the image below they do not have to be as bad as this though on them then you need to remove the heatsink, replace the thermal paste use rubbing alcohol to clean the old paste off using only a small pea size amount.
If the issue persist replace the cpu fan. Edit: When you cleaned them yourself did you remove the heatsink? If so, did you replace the thermal compound? If it's not staying on long enough to even load Windows then it's the cpu fan and not the case fan. Last week, after about 30 minutes of use, my Windows XP Home sp2 pc shut down without warning. When I say "shut down", I more accurately mean "powered itself off immediately".
At first, I though it was some strange power problem, but the pc successfully boot back up immediately after I pressed the power button. The crash damaged my Norton AntiVirus, so I un-installed and re-installed it. Then, the crashes became more frequent. Now, it crashes during boot-up after 30 or so seconds.
I thought it might be overheating, so I checked the two fans in the case and the CPU fan, and they all seem to be working correctly. I suppose it could be some loose connection in the power supply. What do you think?
